The proud Cabot/Pfoho kitchen staff
It was a head-to-head competition until the bitter end, but ultimately, Cabot/Pfoho Kitchen outperformed Quincy to become the 2008-2009 Green Skillet Champs! With a 24.3% reduction in natural gas use, a 5.3% reduction in electricity use and nearly 75% Sustainability Pledge participation, the winning kitchen was a tough competitor. However, the implementation of successful special projects, perhaps the most popular being the Wall of Shame- No Grill Orders Left Behind, convinced the judges that Cabot/Pfoho deserved the title. Congratulations Cabot/Pfoho Kitchen!
You may know about the Green Cup, but have you heard of the Green Skillet? Students aren’t the only ones taking action to reduce Harvard’s environmental impact – kitchen and dining hall staff are doing their part too. The Green Skillet is an academic year-long sustainability competition between the kitchens of the nine houses. Now in its fourth year, the competition pits kitchens against each other in 4 categories: electricity conservation, natural gas conservation, participation in the Sustainability Pledge, and special projects.
Students - support your dining hall family! You know them. You love them. You want to see them succeed! The 2009-2010 competition kicked-off in October and you can help staff by supporting their special projects for the Green Skillet Competition. Ask your favorite staff member if they have been involved in any of the special projects.
May the greenest kitchen win!
